Yichen Fan – Meet Your Officers

Hi PSWE! My name is Yichen Fan. I’m a freshman planning to study environmental and ecological engineering. I am passionate about environmental issues and want to help people to live in harmony with nature. I come from Zhengzhou, a city in the middle of China. I’m so excited to be here at Purdue and have all these brand new experiences. In my free time I enjoy traveling, post-crossing (a website where you can exchange postcards with people from all over the world), reading maps and watching The Big Bang Theory.

Hey, everybody! My name is Madi Scheessele and I work on Photo Updates for the blog. I am from Detroit, MI and I am in First Year Engineering. I hope to major in Civil Engineering and study transportation systems and development. Besides SWE and the blog, I am also involved in the Purdue American Society of Civil Engineers and the Women in Engineering Mentoring Program. I go to St. Toms Church and attend IGNITE bible study. I enjoy swimming at the co-rec, synchronized figure skating, photography, and listening to music. Some of my favorite artists are Imagine Dragons, Ellie Goulding, OneRepublic, Misterwives and Taylor Swift.

upcloseHaley Berner

Hello Hello! My name is Haley Berner and I am so excited for this opportunity to be a part of the Purdue SWE Blog Committee. Currently, I am a junior studying Bioengineering with a concentration in Cellular and Biomolecular Studies and a focus in Pre-Medicine. Although I am a native of San Diego, I decided to venture across the country to join the Boilermaker family. During my freshman year, I joined an outstanding organization called the Society of Women Engineers and stepped into the role of Campus Relations Director where I helped to publicize local events, manage our website, and promote PSWE through social media. This year, I am the Director of Public Relations where I coordinate Alumni Relations events, capture photos for our annual scrapbook, and contribute to our AWESOME blog! When I am not helping out with SWE, I enjoy playing piano and guitar, working out, bargain shopping at thrift stores, crafting, experimenting with healthy recipes, and hanging out with friends. I am also actively involved in a sorority on campus, Chi Omega, as well as the American Medical Students Association, National Society of Collegiate Scholars, and Campus Outreach. I have spent the last two summers in Orlando, Florida working for Universal Studios while participating in a leadership and character development program. Something that everyone might not know about me is that I had never seen an icicle, a real tractor, an elephant ear, a corn maze, an ice scraper, gas below $2.10, or (saddest of all) the leaves turning during Fall until I came to Purdue. If you couldn’t tell already, I am very passionate about SWE and I hope that this blog will convince you to come on board and join in with this incredible organization of women. I play every intramural sport possible along with closely following the Lakers, Dodgers, Sac Republic, and Rams.

Sam Stephens – Intramural Update

ME“My SWEople! My name is Sam Stephens, and I’m a senior co-op in Chemical Engineering as well as the Membership Vitality Fall Director for PSWE this year. SWE intramurals and bagel breaks are my favorite 🙂 Outside of that, I love all things encompassing science fiction/fantasy, traveling, great vanilla chais, and pointing out every beautiful dog that I see in my life.
