PSWE Proudly Presents our...Members of the Week!The SWE Member of the Week award is for someone who has shown outstanding dedication, interest, or a great attitude in general toward SWE. The SWE Member of the Week could be a volunteer or a participant! If there is someone who you believe deserves this award, please email their name and a reason why you think they should receive this award to Jenny Sun.

Taylor Fienhage

Taylor is a sophomore in Chemical Engineering.  She was nominated as Member of the Week because of her outstanding involvement in PSWE, such as attending Bagel Breaks and professional development events.

Kelsey Reilly

Kelsey is a Freshman in First-Year Engineering. She was nominated as Member of the Week because of her outstanding involvement in SWE events, such as SWEetie Sidekick, Bagel Break, and professional development events.

Allison Gruninger

Allison is a Freshman in First-Year Engineering. Allison was nominated as Member of the Week because of her outstanding involvement in variety of SWE events, especially SWEetie Sidekick and other professional development events.

Kathryn Reis

Kathryn is a Freshman in First-Year Engineering anticipating majoring in Chemical Engineering. Kathryn was nominated as Member of the Week because her outstanding involvement in variety of SWE events, especially social events, such as several AMMs, Ice Cream Social and Holiday Mail for Heroes. She is also an Office Assistant, attended the Region H Conference, was a Senior Sleepover host, and acted as a Mentor during SEEP.

Q:  What excites you about PSWE?

A:  I love meeting new people, networking, and having fun!

Q:  What PSWE events are you planning on attending in the future?

A:  I would love to volunteer at the same events again and go to more conferences.  I really loved going to the Region H Conference because it was fun to travel and I learned so much from the seminars

Yajie Wang

Yajie is a senior in Computer and Information Technology.  She was nominated as Member of the Week for her involvement in SWE events, especially professional development and social events like Networking Night, Day with Industry, AMMs, and Holiday Mail for Heroes.

Ikuko Kitamura McNair

Ikuko is a senior in Electrical and Computer Engineering.  She was nominated as Member of the Week because of her great attendance at SWE events, including AMMs, professional development events, and Bagel Breaks.

Q:  How long have you been a PSWE member?

A:  More than a few years! Making the most of C2C!

Q:  What excites you about PSWE?

A: I love professional devlopment workshops, outreach, and community service events.  SWE has lots of events and ways to get involved I like the fact that you can pick and choose whatever suits you!

Q:  What PSWE events are you planning on attending in the future?

A: I’m certain I will pop in the bagel breaks at least a few more times! I’m graduating after this semester, so I’ll try to get involved in as many events as possible.

Cheyenne Martinez

Cheyenne is a freshman planning on majoring in Mechanical Engineering.  She has attended bagel breaks, AMMs, and volunteered at various events.   Cheyenne was nominated as member of the week for her great attendance at PSWE events including AMMs and Tie Dying with Raytheon.

Q:  What excites you about PSWE?

A:  The entire idea of an organization that recognizes and encourages young women to pursue their love for math and science in the form of engineering. Things are always changing because the members strive to make the organization better. I also love the connections I have made and the family aspect; especially with being so far from home.

Q:  What was your favorite event this year?

A:  My personal favorite was Seniors Exploring Engineering at Purdue.  That allowed me to show my enthusiasm for engineering to current high school seniors and tell them what it’s really like to be a girl in engineering here at Purdue.   I loved talking to the three girls that sat at my table because I was able to affirm their interest in math and science and talked through many of their concerns with majoring in engineering.

Q:  What PSWE events are you planning on attending in the future?

A:  I plan on attending the socials because they sound like a great way to meet new people who are experiencing many of the same thought and feelings as women in engineering.

Marissa Zon

Marissa is a senior in Mechanical Engineering.  She has been the Grand Prix Chair,  Pit Crew Chief, and an office assistant.  She was nominated as the Member of the Week due to her her outstanding involvement in variety of SWE events including AMMs, SEE Purdue, and Senior Sleepover.

Q:  What excites you about PSWE?

A:  I love AMM’s and Bagel Breaks because I get to see my fellow SWEoples and bond over food and our enthusiasm of all things SWE!  The SWOffice is also a great place to chill and attempt to be productive.  My most favorite part of PSWE though is Grand Prix a.k.a. SWE Prix of course!

Q:  What in PSWE are you looking forward to for the rest of the semester?

A:  This year I am very lucky to be driver and we have a brand new kart thanks to our awesome sponsor Corning.  We have a lot of great new faces on the pit crew this year, and multiple shenanigans planned to include the rest of PSWE in Grand Prix!

Shannon Gunn

Shannon was nominated as Member of the Week because her outstanding involvement in variety of SWE events last semester. Some events she attended included Networking Night and the All Fired Up social.  Shannon was also a member of the intramural soccer team.

Yajie Yang

Yajie is majoring in Mechanical Engineering Technology.  Yajie was nominated as Member of the Week due to her outstanding involvement in variety of SWE events. Some events she attended include Day with Industry, Networking Night, Mock Interviews, and Stilettos to Steel Toes events.

Q:  What excites you about PSWE?

A:  I like the networking opportunities with industrial players and other students. Also, a lot of free food 🙂

Q:  What was your favorite PSWE event this year?

A:  Day with Industry

Q:  What PSWE events are you planning on attending in the future?

A:  I plan on attending the PCBC and any career-related events.

Jackie Shao

Jackie is a freshman intending to major in Mechanical Engineering.  Jackie was nominated as Member of the Week because of her outstanding involvement in variety of SWE events including the Fall Callout, Ice Cream Social, Networking Night, October AMM, and Senior Sleepover. She is also a SWEetie Sidekick and Grand Prix team member.

Q:  How long have you been a PSWE member?

A:  I’ve been a member of SWE since the beginning of this academic year.

Q:  What excites you about PSWE?

A:  I love Bagel Breaks because they are a great way to end stressful weeks! Also, driver tryouts were awesome!

Q:  What PSWE events are you planning on attending in the future?

A:  I’m super excited for the Roobaroo Dance night because I love cultural things and dancing!

Ashley Stroup

Ashley is a senior in Chemical Engineering and a Collegiate Senator for Region H. She has shown her dedication for SWE by coming to almost every event so far and spreading her passion for SWE to everyone she meets. Ashley has been a part of the SWEetie Sidekick program and has held positions on the PSWE executive board as the Day with Industry Chair, E-week Chair, and President.

Q:  How long have you been a PSWE member?

A:  I’ve been in SWE since my freshman year.

Q: What excites you most about PSWE?

A:  I am excited about all the networking within SWE, especially the chance to meet Stacey DelVecchio, the National SWE President in December right here at Purdue! I also really love attending social events, especially ones that involve crafts.

Q:  What PSWE events are you planning on attending in the future?

A:  I’m excited to go to SWEetie Sidekick events to get to know my sidekick better. I’m also looking forward to watching PSWE race in Grand Prix in the spring!

Christine Bray

Christine is a Freshman in First-Year Engineering.  She was chosen to be the Member of the Week because her outstanding involvement in variety of SWE events including All Fired Up Social, Networking Night, SWetie Sidekick Program, and the October AMM.

Kevin Topolski

Kevin is a senior in Chemical Engineering. He has been a SWE member and an office assistant since he joined SWE. He is also involved with the Grand Prix Team this year. Kevin attends a lot of events, and is always willing to help!

Q:  How long have you been a PSWE member?

A:  I have been a SWE member since last semester.

Q:  What excites you about PSWE?

A:  Currently, I am very excited about being part of the Grand Prix Team. I think they are a fun group to be with!

Q:  What are some PSWE events you are planning on attending in the future?

A:  I am very excited for the events involving Grand Prix including Go Karting at Fast Times and the later build meetings.

Sequoia Murray

Sequoia is a senior in Chemical Engineering. She was nominated for her support for SWE, especially for the intramural teams and events! Her bright and spunky personality always inspires SWE spirit. She has also shown great dedication by continuing to be involved in SWE during her last semester at Purdue. Sequoia is also a member of the blog committee and a past PSWE executive board member and officer.

Sara Richert

Sara is a sophomore in Agricultural Engineering, focusing on Environmental and Natural Resources. She is a member of the PSWE intramural sports teams.

Q: What excites you the most about PSWE?

A:  The intramural sports teams!

Kimberley Peterson

Kimberley is a junior in mechanical engineering. She is  a current office assistant and has been a member of the Grand Prix Build Team. She was selected as the SWE member of the week for her involvement in SWE events, such as Bagel Break, Fall Cookout, and the September AMM.

Q:  How long have you been a PSWE member?

A:  I’ve been a member since sophomore year.

Q: What excites you about PSWE?

A:  I love going to the AMMs to learn from engineers and what they believe can get us in the career field today.

Q:  What PSWE events are you planning on attending in the future?

A:  I plan on being involved with the Grand Prix team this year.

Raj Lal

Raj is a senior in electrical engineering. He attended many SWE events, like Bagel Break, All Member Meetings, and Day With Industry, so he was honored as Member of the Week.

Q:  Why did you join PSWE?

A:  I went on the China Maymester trip two summers ago and met some PSWE executive board members. They told me what SWE does and how beneficial being in the club can be. It didn’t take much convincing and sure enough I joined.

Q:  What excites you about PSWE?

A:  I really enjoy all the opportunities that the executive board sets up to try and increase involvement and give members chances for leadership opportunities.

Q:  What PSWE events are you planning on attending in the future?

A:  I’ll definitely be at the AMMs [All Member Meetings] and try to get to the bagel breaks … There are a lot of events coming up so hopefully I’ll be able to keep active with the organization!

Rebecca Turski

Rebecca is a freshman in FYE. She was selected as Member of the Week due to her involvement in PSWE events.

Emily Gill

Emily is a sophomore in biomedical engineering. As a freshman she was an office assistant and was in the SWEetie Sidekick program. She was selected to be the Member of the Week for her strong involvement in PSWE events.

Q: How did you come to join SWE?

A:  I joined SWE last year as a freshman, after attending the Senior Sleepover in high school.

Q: What excites you about SWE?

A:  I think that SWE offers at great support network for all of its members, and this is not only important now but also after college in our careers. I hope to be involved in SWE for many years to come!

Q:  What PSWE events are you planning on attending in the future?

A:  I hope to attend more AMM’s this year and take advantage of more networking opportunities (Day with Industry was great this year!)

Karen McCormick

Karen was nominated because of her enthusiasm for PSWE. She joined SWE and then helped spread the word and encouraged others to do so as well.
